Questions

Frequently asked

I only know a few names. Is that enough to start?

Yes. Many clients begin with little more than a grandparent's name and a rough idea of where they lived. Your consultation will identify the best starting point.

Do I need to take a DNA test?

Not for lineage research, which relies on historical records. For unknown parentage and adoptee cases, DNA is usually essential, and we'll advise which test will be most useful for your question.

I've already tested. What do you need from me?

Usually your raw DNA file or shared access to your match list. After your consultation we'll send simple, secure instructions for your testing company.

How long does research take?

It depends on the question and how accessible the records are. Your written scope will include an estimated timeline, and you'll receive progress updates throughout.

What if the question can't be fully answered?

We'll give you an honest assessment before work begins. If records don't survive or evidence is inconclusive, your report will document exactly what was searched and what was found, so you're never left guessing.

Is my information kept private?

Always. Your family details and results are shared only with you. For living relative searches, we never contact anyone without your explicit permission.
